The first treatment in many cases will occur on the second visit after the reveiw of findings from the initial evaluation. Before any work is done Dr. Virusky will demonstrate the treatment techniques to be used and make sure there are not any questions. There are generally three possilble outcomes that occur with treatment. The most common outcome is for a person to feel some degree of immediate relief of their complaints. A smaller group of people will feel about the same and a very small group might feel some increase in stiffness or soreness. Generally speaking chiropractic treatments when performed properly should not hurt.
Treatments are geared to be building in their benefit so often people feel better for longer with each visit until resolution of their problem occurs. In the few cases when someone might experience some muscle soreness or spasm secondary to treatment changes can often be made in technique to prevent a negative outcome from occurring a second time.
The adjustment, which is the word used to describe techniques to work on joint function, should feel good. In many cases as the joints move with the adjustment one can hear a click or popping noise. This sound is simply the result of a a gas reaction that occurs when joints move nothing bad is happening. In the event this sound bothers you, there are treatment techniques that can be used to avoid the creation of the clicking or popping noise.
Different tools like ice, heat, deep tissue massage or electric muscle stimulation/IFC, might be used in conjunction with the adjustment to give the fastest, best result. Treatment times in the office generally take between 15 and 30 minutes.
